Brief

150 years is a milestone many brands never reach, but for Victor Churchill “The Bulgari of butchers,” it’s the culmination of a century and a half of uncompromising craftsmanship, history, family and innovation.

Team VC commissioned Buffet to create a brand film commemorating and cementing the legacy of all it’s achieved in the minds of the industry, media and audiences new and old.

Our Approach

Historical epics, incredible dynasties. These stories are having a moment. We love to see the inner workings of a family.  Victor Churchill isn’t just a business with a past; it’s a living system of people, process and belief that has been passed down, protected, and refined over generations. Our brand film, The House of Churchill, showcases a cross-section of its village as narrator, with voices including Terry Durack, Lennox Hastie, Camilla Freeman-Topper and the Churchill family, telling the story of Victor Churchill, with Anthony at its head, spanning through the community he’s built.

In parallel, we follow a hero cut’s journey – the rib-eye – as a narrative device from pasture to patron, pulling the story forward through key characters in its community and the family of Victor Churchill. 150 years of glorious historic photography and footage are overlaid in montage, tracing the story of how the village butcher transformed into the luxurious brand it is today. The result is a myth-making brand film that honours the legacy and impact of this groundbreaking brand, the dedication to the craft of butchery, and sets the tone for the next 150.

For Buffet Director Nikki To, it was refreshing to work with a client who was proud and committed to put long-form storytelling at the forefront of a project, a welcome break from the constant flow of attention-grabbing clips that flood social accounts today. “It was never a discussion that this would be short-form, if anything we extended it,” she says. “The story and creative came first, not the rules of the content game. Sometimes, a story is powerful to hold attention for longer than two seconds, and that’s Victor Churchill – a legacy that’s rich enough for a short film. Director John-Paul Mockler’s layers of theatre and cinema ensured this isn’t an average talking-head documentary, but a legacy story we’re so proud of.”
